Praying for other people has always been an important element of the Christian life. Saint Augustine writes: "Prayer is the cry of the heart" (Expositions of the Psalms 120, 9). We like people to pray for us; we like to be prayed for. Praying for others is a way of bringing people closer to you. Remembering at prayer is a beautiful Catholic concept. You have a deceased loved one of friend. By recalling that person with the beautiful gift of memory which has been given to us, we are able to make this person present to us. We can visualize him or her, see the smile or the cocked head or whatever characteristics we remember of that person. Through our memory, as well as through our recalling that person in prayer, the individual becomes present to us. We remember, we celebrate, we believe.
