Augustinians
from the Province of Chicago (midwest) in the United States began missionary
work in Peru in 1964. In 1968 friars for the Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova
(east coast) opened a parish in Chulucanas, San José Obrero. In 1986
the region became a vicariate under the auspices of the Province of Chicago.
Today the Augustinians serve in: Chulucanas, Morropón, Chalaco, and
Pacaipampa. The novitiate house is located in Lima; the house of the professed
is in Trujillo.
Bishop Daniel Turley is the bishop of Chulucanas.
Presently eight (8) friars from the United States serve in the vicariate along
with five (5) Peruvian Augustinians. Also preparing for religious life and
priesthood are 70 Peruvian youths.
Support
the missions through the Richard D. Appicci, O.S.A., Endowment for the Missions.
