A. Darragh.
James Alexander Darragh was born in New York City in 1838. In 1856 he
entered the novitiate at Villanova, PA and was ordained a priest in 1861.
His brother, Father Thomas Mark Darragh, was also an Augustinian priest.
Father Darragh was first stationed in Philadelphia, PA. In 1862 he was
appointed first Augustinian rector at Cambridge, NY, with the care also
of Hoosick Falls and Salem. Later, in 1865, he was transferred to Mechanicville,
NY, with the charge of Schaghticoke.
Father Darragh also served at Chestnut Hill, PA, and Villanova where he
died on January 7, 1887, at the age of 49. He is buried in the Community
Cemetery at Villanova.
