January 9 is the anniversary of George H. Scannell.

Father George H. Scannell was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1882. He entered the novitiate at nearby Villanova in 1907 and later went to Italy where he completed his studies. He was ordained to the priesthood in Rome in 1913.

Father Scannell served at St. Nicholas’ in New York City and at St. Rita’s in Philadelphia.

He died in St. Agnes’ Hospital in Philadelphia on January 9, 1930 at the age of 48, and is buried in the Community Cemetery at Villanova.
