The Shrine

The National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia

The National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia is a spiritual, educational, social and cultural center in South Philadelphia. The Shrine operates under the auspices of the Augustinians of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova with the goal of addressing the needs of the ever-changing neighborhood and the city.

As leaders in the community, six Augustinian Friars serve the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia for sacramental ministry to the faithful. They celebrate Mass, offer Reconciliation, provide tours, bless articles purchased in the gift shop, and are a welcoming presence to the Shrine community and visitors.

“The National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia in South Philadelphia has been a spiritual home to thousands of Catholics for over 100 years. While the place itself has religious and cultural significance, it is the life of Saint Rita that invites all people – of all ages and faith experiences – to encounter the timeless virtues of peacemaking, healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Through the intercession of Saint Rita, countless people have experienced the abundant grace and mercy that God so readily offers to each of us.” – Jonathan Jerome, Director of the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia

The Legacy of

St. Augustine in the Catholic Church

Augustine was a thoughtful, empathetic, and loving servant of God. He valued community, welcomed others, and treated them the way they deserved to be treated. Augustine also laid the foundation for the Order of St. Augustine. The Order continues to explore ways to care for those in great need both in our Province work throughout Massachusetts, New Jersey, and surrounding states and in our greater missions throughout the world.

We invite you to continue to learn about St. Augustine, his life, and his teachings.
